As I'm sure many of you are aware, I've been working off-and-on over
the past while on porting BlueQuartz to the FreeBSD operating system.
FreeBSD is a powerful UNIX-like operating system based on the Berkeley
4.4BSD UNIX derivative, which is generally recognized as one of the
most stable, reliable and powerful server operating systems available
today.
もうみんな知ってると思うけど、しばし私、BlueQuartz を FreeBSD に
委嘱してました。FreeBSD いいよねー。
Originally, OffMyServer, Inc, the company who has sponsored me in
developing this port (and who has now hired me to finish the port)
intended to release it only as a server appliance. Recently, we
discussed the possibility of making an open source version as well,
and we have made the decision to release the code under a modified BSD
license. Installation of the RAQdevil software is straightforward.
While we do not provide ISO images and our code license prohibits
closed source and commercial distribution, we would like to see an
open source niche develop for this software running on FreeBSD
systems.

アプライアンスに詰めて売るだけのつもりだったんだけど、しばし
話をして、modified BSD ライセンスでリリースすることにしました。

RaQdevil のインストールは超簡単よ。ISO は提供しないのと、僕らのコードの
ライセンスは商用での再配布を認めないけど、まあオープンソースの
ニッチな開発がされるかなと。
Work continues to integrate additional features for the release of a
RAQdevil-based appliance, as well as for the open source version. Our
website has information about things that we would definitely like to
see contributed to the open source project. I know several extensions
have been made to BlueQuartz (for e.g. PHPMyAdmin) which should not be
difficult to import into RAQdevil (and some things, such as
PHPMyAdmin, may be able to be imported with no changes whatsoever).
RaQdevil ベースのアプライアンスが出るまでの作業はもうちょい。
情報はいろいろ web に出すけど、オープンソースに寄与できてイイ感じ。
PHPMyAdmin とかいろいろ BlueQuartz に拡張されたものもそのまんま載ると
思う。
