As per usual someone jumps on the high horse...
Where i was coming from is this. Unlike most of you, i have BQ installed
on a Server on the end of a DSL link, which hosts 3 or 4 CHARITY sites
and sites for Disabled groups ( Plus 2 of my own sites - both Non-profit
making and non-commercial). Not the ideal solution in know, however it
does the job, costs the groups nothing, and provides support for some.
BQ is "Free" - nuonce installer was a donation so to speak from Brian
and Michael to the community as a whole, and i'd like to thank them for
that.
I dont ask anything for the sites that I host from those groups. My son
is disabled and I host a support forum for other sufferers of the
Genetic illness. And for that i thank Brian and Michael for giving me a
simple opportunity to do this - unbeknown to them they have indirectly
helped hundreds of people.
I have supported in a very small way by the purchase of a few packages
from Brian over the years ( Probably to the sum total of around
$500ish), rather than installing a lot of the stuff myself by hand. It's
my own little way of giving back.
However, with what sounds like the "new" version of this solution coming
out, no doubt the older version will continue to be updated and
supported less and less (understandable if you are offering a product
that people are buying), this means that unless BQ lives on under Centos
5 as a free offering, these things probably will come to an end, since i
just cant afford to pay out £300 for a replacement, plus the obvious
charges for updates every year thereafter. Would be fine for all you
commercial hosting enviroment guys - £300 is undoubtedly a bargain for
the offering, especially when people host 100+ sites on the box that
users pay maybe $5 or $10 per month for.
So whilst, you are right, the price seems fair, It prices me and some
others no doubt out of the market - The Centos/Nuonce installer is
"Free", much like my time to set up, maintain, bugfix etc etc the system
for these guys.
So please dont start throwing your teddy out the pram without knowing
all the facts.
Paul
