Would you check /etc/dovecot.conf.
It has the following line.
default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail/:INBOX=mbox

and this line is in protcol pop3 section.
   pop3_uidl_format = %08Xu%08Xv

If you can access to mbox via imap, please connect with imap.
I want to know this problem is only on pop3 or both pop3 and imap.
