Ah, ok. As far as I know they shouldn't break the alias behaviour of Sendmail.

It is unlikely that /var/log/messages will show anything related to this 
issue. So /var/log/maillog would indeed be the place to look for errors 
concerning this problem.

What you can do is to increase value for the switch "O LogLevel=9" 
in  /etc/mail/sendmail.cf

Set it to 15 and restart Sendmail/MailScanner. Then check /var/log/maillog 
again and see if you get more information relevant to the problem.

But do not forget to set the LogLevel back to 9 (and restart Sendmail 
afterwards), or your /var/log/maillog will get *very* big pretty soon.
