I had the original PKG installed.  I installed the update and it removed the
YUM Updater from the GUI but still listed it in installed packages.  I
removed it from installed packages and reinstalled it, and this time it
showed up in the GUI as well.

I can see how that happened. It's now fixed (on your server, too). For those

wondering: Emanuel's server is tied into the Solarspeed YUM repository,
where 
an update of that RPM was located as well.
