I use VM Workstation for all of my builds.  (On WinXP, bleh, I know). 
Anyway,
you can get away with 20 gb using VMware.  Not sure why it won't install on 
a
regular 20 gig hard drive though, that is why I say "30 gigs".

Any who, your right, do not allocate disk space, and your good.  I think 
after about
4 weeks of running a vmware with 40 gig hard drive, I actually used < 2 gigs 
of
physical space.

I never allocate space.  Never had a neeed to.  Works just fine when you do 
not.
