Hmmm,

Then check the files in /etc/mail and see if there is an "alias" for "mail" 
(as a username) in any of the files (alias, virtusertable, etc).  Mine does 
not do this, so there has got to be something telling the server that the 
name "mail" when used as a username, gets directed to admin or whoever.
