I had the similar problem. Apparently something weird with my firewall...I
don't know the actual cause. However, on 2 fresh install (nuonce 3.5) both
systems hung while downloading primary.xml.gz. I downloaded it manually to
my desktop, uploaded to the server replacing the one that was there, now yum
works fine. Go figure.

It may be having issues with downloading.
Maybe network connections are not good.
How long did you wait?
