This morn when I came I noticed I couldn't get my email - connection
timed out - so I restarted sendmail and it is now working fine. Checking
a few logs I found that /dev/sda failed a smartd check. I ran mdchk and
the results follow. It says it fixed some failed partitions and RAID
status: OK. I am wondering if this might be fairly normal or should I be
alarmed? Is it usually indicative of a drive failing or do disks just
need repair on some occasions?

thanks, Jim
