We deal with this all the time, and integrated MySQL interface is
something that I've been advocating / begging for in various ways for a
long time. In my mind, this is BQ's biggest shortcoming in comparison
with the commercial control panels from an end-user standpoint.
Anytime somebody wants to set up a new Joomla/Drupal/Wordpress/phpBB/you
name it site they need to set up a MySQL database as part of that procedure.
I think this stems from the original days of the Cobalt interface, when
sites tended to be static HTML, and MySQL, while available on the
server, was not considered to be an integral part of the server or its
management. A lot has changed since those days!
What we have been doing is set up a default MySQL database for a new
customer signup, using the same username and password they select as
their primary email/FTP account. We name the database the same as
their domain but replace the . with a _ character (MySQL requires this).
Then at least they will have a default database available, and they
can, if they choose, set up multiple applications with the use of unique
table names.
If a customer requests another database be set up for them, we handle
that via our ticket system with them. But still, it requires us to
manually intervene.
