Many thanks for that very useful contribution. I just submitted it to the 
BlueQuartz SVN:

I made two very minor changes to fix_grub, though: 

I added a check if /boot/grub/grub.conf is present - which it may not on a 
Lilo system. 

I also let it check for the presence of /proc/mdstat to determine early on to 
see if it's indeed a RAID system or not. There are some oddball systems 
around that have Grub installed, but don't use software RAID.
