Here is the info from an old reply of Gerald Waugh:

Installed the trial version

1) Get coldfusion
   http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=coldfusion
Create an account, if you don't have one.
   download Trial Edition (Coldfusion-8-lin.bin)
       English | Linux | 316,41 MB

2) ftp Coldfusion-8-lin.bin to the CBQ server
   ssh to the server
   move or copy Coldfusion-8-lin.bin /

3) cd /
   chmod +x Coldfusion-8-lin.bin
   execute: ./Coldfusion-8-lin.bin
You will get a warning that /tmp is not large enough
     and attempting to use /root
   It will work.

4) Most prompts will accept a CR (hit return)
Except Serial Number (select 30 day Trial)

5) follow all instructions...

You have successfully completed the first step in installing Adobe
ColdFusion8.
To continue with your installation, go to /opt/coldfusion8/bin and type
"./coldfusion start" to start your server.

Once the server, is started log in to the Configuration Wizard at
http://[machinename]:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm110

At anyrate it does work....
Needs space in /opt which is under the '/' directory
We used NuOnce Installer 4.7 which allows 6GB '/' space leaves 3.9GB
available.
