It's also affecting POP3 users, not just IMAP users as per my first post. -- hugh _____ From: Hugh Messenger [mailto:hugh (at mark) alaweb.com] Sent: Friday, June 27, 2008 4:20 PM To: coba-e (at mark) bluequartz.org Subject: [coba-e:13420] IMAP connection issues My Outlook users have started complaining about getting connection problems on the IMAP mailboxes. I've set up a test account on one of their domains, and sure enough, every hour or so Outlook throws a disconnect warning (under details, it says "Server shutting down"). So when I sat down this morning, I had about a dozen dialogs to dismiss. From the logs, it looks like Dovecot is restarting every 15 mins: Jun 27 14:01:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 14:16:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 14:31:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 14:46:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 15:01:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 15:16:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 15:31:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 15:46:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 16:01:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded Jun 27 16:16:01 raq3 dovecot: dovecot startup succeeded But for the life of me, I can't find what is doing the restarting. My best guess about the Outlook warnings is that this happens when Outlook's new mail check coincides with the 10 seconds or so Dovecot is unavailable while restarting. I don't know if this really is a recent issue, or if it's just some more folk starting to use Outlook/IMAP rather than openwebmail, so we're just now finding out about it. I found a cron job that checks Dovecot every half hour, but that should only fire it up again if it's dead. Any ideas? -- hugh13449_2.html (attatchment)(tag is disabled)
