I remember reading this fix when it was first published. Can someone 
explain what the root cause of the problem was? I was just pondering to 
myself that if it happened to me, I'd be seriously in a flap, with my 
mail archives dependent on the box that would have failed..... (Yes, I 
know there are web mirrors of the group.... but....)

If the root cause is known, can we create something that will test for 
the fault condition and report on it before the box is rebooted?
