Have them try using Windows Explorer. Start -->Documents -->My Documents

Enter in the address bar: ftp://IP or domain/../../../web

Notice three ../

Just tried it on a system with IE7 and XP. After the login prompt with the
site admin user/pass I was in the main /web directory of the site.
