Have you suggested HTACESS to you customer,

There are a few scripts out there that can create users with password for
access through internet explorer.(that is for download)

If you want upload I think there is also a .ftaccess file that can be place
in the directory and use it as PROFTPD Directives.

HTH

Subject: [coba-e:13056] Ftp doesn't work with IE7

Howdy,

My clients want to use IE7 with FTP and it doesn't work.

Opera connects just fine, but there is a problem to convience them to switch
- corporate policy often prevents this.

How could I overcome this?

More details on particular client:
He has a site on the server and wants his clients to connect to a certain
directory w/ user/pass in order to download files.
I created a separate non-privileged user so he put his files in there.
The solution has several drawbacks, mostly dealing with permissions.

How could I overcome this?

Your advise is very appreciated, as usual.

Best,
