He probably tried the "index" command, which is supposed to return an index of 
the topics of the mailing list. 

But commands have to be sent to <coba-e-ctl (at mark) bluequartz.org> and not to 
<coba-e (at mark) bluequartz.org>. Otherwise they just end up as regular messages on 
the list. Like that one.
