Brian ...
Redhat has had it marked as config/noreplace for some time.. and with 63
builds by RedHat since the spec was born I think your out of line to call
the man a fool or claim that Redhat failed to mark it as a config file...
You are the last person to build it and your the one that distributed it.
That makes you responisble for it's content.
Whenever I make a spec file or rpm I always read the entire spec including
the filelist to make sure things are as I want them or as they should be.
In the over 1700 source rpms I have built, I have found some that will
delete everything in strange places like the srpms directory and that sort
of thing makes it a requirement to read and understand everything in the
spec completely. Any exception to this could cause a problem as far as I'm
concerned... Now that changelog...

You have built that rpm 4 times and failed to fix the dovecot.conf settings
which stand out like a sore thumb...

They did and you can verify this by looking at the spec from...
ftp://ftp.redhat.net/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/4/en/os/i386/SRPMS/dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1.src.rpm
and even if they didn't you would still be on the hook in my opinion...

So this problem was caused by nobody?
I know it didn't happen by magic! either you or Hisao changed the config.
If you look at the BlueQuartz archive we will find...
http://bluequartz.org/pub/BlueQuartz/5100R/CentOS4/bluequartz/SRPMS/dovecot-1.0-1.0.BQ.src.rpm
which appears to be yours and Hisao's work. This spec also includes perl
substitutions in the spec file which RedHat would not of done for BQ
systems... This to is very messy and should be avoided and a patch made for
the final release if necessary (I made a patch). But as this is the version
you last distributed and you are the person responsible for it.
Myself I don't care.. I just built around it and I needed it so I could
adjust the dovecot.conf file without the need to write a script to work
around the mis-configs.. Honestly I didn't see the ssl issue coming, but
it's good to know a off and on of the switch is all it needs....
Now one last thing.. I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to respond to your
offlist e-mail but I'll tell you the same thing I told to Michael... I'm
going to be posting several things (time permitting) and I would appreciate
it if you and he didn't get bent out of shape about everything... I'm not
here making up stories, I only post things I have tested and know beyond a
reasonable doubt... If you have a problem with that. I'm sorry but I'm not
going to hold my tongue for fear of offending someone.. Last I checked this
was the BlueQuartz list and if you feel your work is perfect, I would
suggest you fork off. (please don't take that another way) :)
Anyway... I'm doing my best to not offend you folks but at the same time it
would be nice to make the system better so my customers that have chosen to
use it can do so with better security and as problem free as possible...
