You might want to check the firewall is not on your computer.

Try disabling norton personal firewall or similar software and try runing
this on a comand line. (afet turning on submission port on your server)

telnet yourserver 587 

And see if you get a response 

That might tell you more information

If you have not set up any firewall on the server, then that is probably not

the cause of the problem.
I'm out of solutions on this.
