At last, the Tyan GT20 is working.
Disable ACPI in the BIOS "power options"
If dual drive install, use the SATA1 and SATA2 connectors
If single drive install, use SATA1 connector
these are the 2 inboard connectors
SATA1 connector is the one towards the back of the server
Viewed from the front of server
SATA4 SATA1

SATA3 SATA2
===== =====
The install will recognize these as SATA1 hda and SATA2 hdc
At the boot prompt
(use IDE install options)
add "all-generic-ide" (no "") after the install option
i.e. " 22 all-generic-ide "
The install should proceed normally.
When the system reboots, the drives will be "sda" and "sdb"
And the system will be running in SATA2 mode.
