Hi Rashid,

I use mod_deflate extensively at work on apache(not BQ though), we
found the compression varies massively per file, but it does cut down
the bandwidth in a big way :-)

Only thing is there is a catch... it reduces bandwidth at the cost of
CPU. On a 2 way Xeon (old P3 type) server we saw a 10% CPU rise to
give us a 40/50% drop in bandwidth. This server handles around
200/300Gb of traffic per month (after compression).

Theres also the issue of client problems. Some old browsers and crappy
proxies (MS ISA springs to mind) that can't handle compressed traffic
and end up serving cached pages from one user to another one by
mistake (ISAs speciality!). There are workarounds for it which are
well documented.

If you need any help give me a shout.
Andy
