I had this problem, When I looked in the logs (/var/log/messages) it
appeared that the problem was saslauthd. I first created a script to restart
all the services including saslauthd every hour but it still happened in
between restarts.
So I then tried looking at the options related to saslauthd directly. I
tried changing the FLAGS in /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd.
After much trial and error I wound up with:
FLAGS="-n 10 -c"
This runs saslauthd with 10 children and caching. I have not had a problem
since I made this change.
