Yes - several - they appear to be from her phone, which she turned on and
started checking mail on while discussing the issue with me. None prior to
then.

Nope - the messages were in the inbox once... and then gone from the inbox
the next time they logged in. So wouldn't the spam-filter have cleaned them
out the first time? (I've also reconfigured & limited webmail's spam-filter
- I use SpamAssassin for filtering).
